The aim of this course is: to introduce the practice of digital crafting environment within the several software, tools, and techniques and to gain a critical understanding of digital thinking and decision-making processes and apply them in production techniques. Pepakura, Unfolding, and Rhinoceros will be introduced. In addition, students will be familiar with CAD and CAM opportunities, Digital Crafting tools, and Digital Fabrication techniques.

The process of the course is as follows:

1. Assignment is to create fluent connections between at least 4 floor plates with subdivison techniques as shown in our 2. lecture.
2. Assignment is to create fluent connections between at least 6 floor plates with subdivison techniques as shown in our 3. lecture.
3. Assignment is to design fluent connections between 10 floor plates. These floor plates should be arranged in a square (top view) and should not exceed more than 5 levels in elevation.
4. Assignment is to upgrade / completely renew your hyper – cube in terms of fluent connections between numerous floor plates and structure.
5. Assignment is to design the first draft version of a contemporary interpretation of a throne.
6. Assignment is to continue with the design of the first draft design of a contemporary interpretation of a throne or to develop another version of it.
7. assignment is to write a 300 word abstract about the guest lecture of Virginia Couch and Prof.Dr. Anne Frary or to write a statement explaining your point of view in relation to the content of this lecture.

MIDTERM SUBMISSION: midterm assignment is to design a hyper-cube that emphasis the connections by ramps between its levels. Please articulate the edges of your geometry, especially at the external border. You are encouraged to use a waffle structure partially or paneling techniques to emphasis the structure and assembly of your project.

FINAL SUBMISSION: final assignment is to design a contemporary interpretation of a throne that emphasizes not only the meaning of the subject itself, but also architectural and functional aspects. The final project needs to be done individually and submitted and presented at the given date and time, see paragraph above. A wide range use of the digital form giving and detailing techniques, as learned and practiced during the lectures, is highly appreciated. Also provide a plan or graphic illustrating a fabrication plan and suggested fabrication method (e.g. 3D printed subdivided hull supported by a waffle structure).
