Due to the geopolitical changes, which generated both economical and social changes in the city, central areas are the most vulneraЫe urban spaces. This vulnerability occurs directly through neglect and abandonment of the central areas, which is many cases are historical and part of the city’s identity, or, indirectly as а consequence of the territorial urbanization in any point of the region, Ьу decentralizing living, commerce and office areas.
Restoration alone of the urban fabric, the physical units, lengthens their lifespan, however it may not conserve the meaning or identity of an historical centre. Refunctionalizing or adaptive reuse, is the solution for а sustainabe conservation strategy ensuring area maintenance, delay of decay.
The purpose of third year studio is to provide students with experience designing in а sustainable approach. Students will develop capability with the design process for developing technical solutions bу employing the fundamental processes associated with sustainable and innovative solutions. They will use the skills and knowledge acquired in designing an architectural design project. Students are required to design а space in Bayrakl1 District. The space is to fit the specific needs of the local community that best fits, the identity, functionality, and site conditions.
Concept idea shall evidently show the experimental and spatial quality. Students are also to consider how design is to bе attached and harmonize with existing buildings and urban space. Additional consideration should also bе given to human scale and dimensional requirements.

• Distribution of clear instruction concerning the design process/procedure guidelines
• Distribution and explanation of appropriate evaluation criteria to the students for the course and design activity.
• Distribution of design portfolio guidelines and management strategies.
• Development of a plan to manage the design process.
• Development of design team development and maintenance strategies.
• Development of a clear time line for students, specifying completion dates for each phase of the process.

The aim of the Architectural Design III Studio ARCH 3310 is to deliver knowledge, techniques and skills that allow students to design an architectural project within the context of a promotes the setting of designs where architecture has been driven by the ideas of both being inspired by natural forces and preventing-by-design the negative effects of natural fires and hurricanes.

This studio focuses on architecture designed to prevent an earthquake to become a disaster. Students will engage in designing either a secondary or a high school in Bayrakli district

students must incorporate five key aspects:

Safety, including the urban level (potential of public/private areas for safety areas & accessibility), the building level (structure, accessibility, emergency & escape routes), and at the elements and detailing)

Structure, including the implementation of seismic-resistant elements in the design (shear walls, braced frames, and moment frames) and their effect in the design and functionalist architectural design decisions play a fundamental role in the response of the building structure during earthquakes.

Adaptability, including the concepts of temporality & emergency vs. permanent function, whose apparent opposite meanings help to queson the idea of a permanent single program lifespan of a building. Adaptability introduces the notion of transformation, both spatial and in time, of functions, spaces, and activities.

Accessibility, including the notions of universal design and safety during the emergency.

Material, including the implementation of safe materials and building construction techniques, technology that allows for adaptable solutions and/or safe spaces, and that is final re prevention at human scale.
